Paulo Costa Speaks On UFC 253 Loss To Israel Adesanya
Paulo Costa has offered a brief statement following his loss to Israel Adesanya.
Costa challenged Adesanya for the UFC Middleweight Championship this past Saturday, September 26. “Borrachinha” was undefeated in his pro MMA career going into the bout. He ended up suffering a second-round TKO defeat in the main event of UFC 253.
Costa took to his Instagram account and had just one sentence in response to his loss against Adesanya.
“I will come back stronger.”
During the post-fight press conference, UFC President Dana White described Costa’s efforts against Adesanya as “weird” (via MMAJunkie).
“So much for ‘Fight of the Year’ – it was ‘Domination of the Year.’ It was weird because if you look at every other fight that Costa has had, he comes out and goes after people like they owe him money.
“I think he landed one jab in this fight. He didn’t try to clinch on the fence, didn’t try to put pressure, kept going back to the center of the octagon. It was very weird.”
With the loss, Costa’s pro MMA record falls to 13-1. Adesanya’s record improves to 20-0 and he has scored his 15th victory by way of knockout. This is “The Last Stylebender’s” second successful UFC Middleweight Title defense.
There was a lot of bad blood going into Adesanya vs. Costa. Both men went back-and-forth with brutal predictions. Costa went as far as to say he’d “kill” Adesanya and kept insisting that the 185-pound champion needed to be humbled. Things didn’t go Costa’s way and now fight fans are left to wonder how he will bounce back.
