PBC And Amazon Prime Renew Canelo Vs. Munguia Talks

Canelo Alvarez vs. Jaime Munguia is reportedly “almost a done deal” for May 4. In surprising news, PBC has returned to the table with Amazon Prime Video. Canelo also would be back with PBC, after he pulled out of his previous deal due to financial and opponent selection issues.

Canelo departed PBC after he failed to secure the Jermall Charlo fight, planned for the same May 4 date.

Reports indicated PBC was unwilling to pay Canelo a $35 million guarantee to fight Charlo. PBC allegedly restricted those funds for the Munguia fight. Munguia is the trickier fight and expected to sell more since he, unlike Charlo, is an undefeated Mexican.

For now, it appears Canelo vs. Munguia is the plan for Cinco de Mayo weekend. Despite this being the case, Eddie Hearn remains skeptical until an official announcement is made.

“I don’t think it’s official yet; we’ll have to see. Obviously, he’s with PBC, isn’t he? I don’t know how that contract sits. Was it a three-fight deal? I know Munguia is a DAZN fighter, so I’m not sure how that’ll play out with Golden Boy. We’ll see what plays out,” Hearn stated
