Canelo Alvarez Declines PBC Two-Fight Offer Vs. Jermall Charlo, David Benavidez

UPDATE (Feb. 17, 2022, 4:29 PM ET): Mike Coppinger reports Canelo declined PBC’s offer about 10 days ago and is looking at Matchroom’s offer that includes fights vs Dmitry Bivol and Gennadiy Golovkin.

The super middleweight’s top contenders seem to be trying everything to get a fight in with the undisputed champion.

Boxing journalist Dan Rafael reported Wednesday that Al Haymon’s PBC has increased their offer to a two-fight deal and now includes a matchup against former two-time super middleweight titleholder David Benavidez in September.

The offer initially included just one pay-per-view fight against middleweight champion Jermall Charlo in May. For this deal to go through, Benavidez would have to defeat David Lemieux who he is scheduled against in May.

The other option Alvarez comes from Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing and DAZN who includes a fight with light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol in May and an anticipated trilogy fight with Gennadiy Golovkin at super middleweight in September, as long as GGG defeats Ryota Murata in their delayed middleweight unification fight.

Alvarez is currently a promotional free agent.
