Pereira Calls For Gane Rematch, Drawing Backlash From Heavyweight Contender
Josh Hokit (10-0) didn’t hold back after Alex Pereira (13-4) called for a rematch with interim UFC heavyweight champion Ciryl Gane (14-2), arguing that Pereira should earn a win in the division before receiving another title shot.
Pereira was stopped by Gane in the second round of their interim heavyweight title fight at UFC Freedom 250 in June. Pereira has since said he believes a rematch makes sense and that he plans to pursue it.
“As a fan, that fight makes no f*cking sense. I watched you get demolished. How about a more favorable matchup like Sergei, who is basically a striker and way less athletic than Ciryl. How about you get one f*cking win in this weight class before you are gifted another title shot,” Hokit wrote.
Hokit also criticized the possibility of the UFC booking the rematch so soon after their first meeting.
“When UFC starts letting guys that try to feed carrots to a school bus and Brigitte Macron’s stunt double to do their matchmaking, this company is f*cking cooked. USA pays the bills around here. The fans deserve [an] American champion and a f*cking fight we didn’t just see in June!” Hokit wrote.
Hokit also weighed in on Ilia Topuria’s position in the lightweight title picture, arguing that neither Topuria nor Pereira should receive an immediate title opportunity following their recent losses.
“Growing up, I loved the UFC and all of its fighters. So it gives me great pleasure to use my platform today to speak the truth: neither Ilia Topuria nor Alex Pereira deserve a f*cking title shot in their next fight. They both got handily destroyed. Make them earn it and fight their way back like everyone else. Sincerely, the fans,” Hokit wrote.
