Pernell Whitaker Dead At 55

Former four-division world champion and 1984 gold medalist, Pernell Whitaker was killed on July 14th, after he was struck by a car in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Per TMZ, the accident occurred around 10:04 pm, as police responded to a man who was hit by a car and was in dire shape.

Emergency Services attempted to revive Whitaker, performing CPR on the former world champion, but Whittaker succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The situation was not a hit and run, as the driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene and answered police questions.

Following a gold medal at the 1984 Olympics, Whitaker would go pro the same year, compiliing championships at lightweight, light welterweight, welterweight and light middleweight before retiring in 2001 with a 40-4-1 record.

Whitaker is survived by his five children, he was 55-years- old,
