PFL 3: Sordi Takes Down Magalhaes In Two Rounds
After a long night of heavyweight and light heavyweight action, the first round of the second season of the Professional Fighters League ended on a powerful note. The third event of 2019 took place on June 6 inside the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island, NY.
The main event featured Emiliano Sordi facing last year’s light heavyweight runner-up in Vinny Magalhaes. Sordi (18-8) dominated the entire bout, outpacing Vinny (18-11) at every turn. The first round saw Sordi take Vinny straight down with a right hand. Vinny dropped Sordi down but the latter was able to quickly escape the hold and continued to do so with each attempt Vinny was making. Sordi blasted Vinny with left and right shots as the latter missed key punches and kicks. Before the round ended Sordi was pummeling Vinny with combination shots and haymakers.
Round two was more of the same, as Sordi was too fast for Vinny. Sordi hit a big right onto the face of Vinny, which put him down to the canvas. Sordi had Vinny down twice on the mat but gave him time to get back to his feet. He continued to hit uppercut and body shots to Vinny before the referee called the fight off at 2:45 into round two. Sordi earned five points for the TKO-win.

PFL 3 also featured Kelvin Tiller against Muhammed Dereese in a light heavyweight co-main event bout. Tiller took control of the fight from the start, eventually locking Dereese (7-1) in a kimura lock for several minutes. Following a few attempts at getting out of the hold, Dereese tapped out 3:22 into round one. Tiller, who may have broken his orbital bone a month prior to the fight, earned six points. “Mama’s Boy” ended up celebrating in the ring his mother and kids.
