PFL Announces Alternates, Pineda To Appeal Drug Test
A decision is set to be made as to whether or not the Professional Fighters League will have to find an alternate for Lance Palmer to compete against on New Year’s Eve.
Daniel Pineda, who was flagged by the Nevada Athletic Commission for failing a drug test, will go before the commission on December 18th to appeal the “irregular” test. This was after Pineda (28-13) won both of his fights in October against Movlid Khaibulaev and Jeremy Kennedy to advance.
“The PFL believes all athletes deserve due process and will, within reason, provide the fighters who earned their way into the finals every opportunity to compete on New Year’s Eve,” PFL CEO Peter Murray stated in a release. “The league, as always, will abide by the final ruling of the commission.”
If Pineda is unable to compete on the New Year’s card, Alex Gilpin, who lost the semifinals to Palmer, will take his place. Additionally, the PFL announced they have designated alternates eligible to serve as replacements in the case other finalists aren’t able to compete.
The following alternates have been announced:
– Featherweight: Gilpin
– Women’s Lightweight: Sarah Kaufman
– Lightweight: Chris Wade
– Welterweight: Glaico Franca (Chris Curtis a second alternate)
– Light Heavyweight: Bozigit Ataev
– Heavyweight: Denis Goltsov
The PFL Finals will be taking place inside Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theater.
