PFL Unveils Plans For Bellator Champions Series

Since the PFL’s acquisition of Bellator, the MMA community has been left wondering what will come of the formerly Scott Coker run organization.

Now, it seems there is a plan in place, as the Bellator Champions Series was announced earlier this week. The series will premier on March 22nd with Bellator 302, and will reportedly be headlined by Corey Anderson versus Karl Moore for the vacant 205-pound title.

Additionally, While the PFL has discontinued their women’s featherweight division, Bellator Champions Series will continue to produce 145-pound bouts. This came as great news to Leah McCourt and Sinead Kavanagh who are now scheduled for their rematch on the upcoming 302 card in Belfast, Ireland.

“After the landmark acquisition of Bellator, the Professional Fighters League is excited to officially announce a new era of MMA with the launch of the ‘Bellator Champions Series’ global franchise,” PFL CEO Peter Murray said in the release. “The Bellator Champions Series will feature reigning Bellator Champion fighters defending their titles against the best fighters in the world from the star-studded Bellator roster. Fans will have access to the best competition and the most innovate formats in MMA distributed by leaders in sport including DAZN.”

Back in November, the PFL confirmed their monumental acquisition of Bellator MMA. Two months later, the organization announced the PFL vs. Bellator: Champs PPV super-card, which is set for February 24th in Saudi Arabia and will serve as the new MMA powerhouse’s kick-off event.

While the super-card scheduled for later this month is exciting in itself, it seems to be completely separate from the planned Bellator Champions Series, which will gear most of its focus toward the fan base in the international market. Bellator Champions Series will be available on DAZN in select European countries including The U.K., Italy, Portugal, Belgium, and France.

North American broadcast information has yet to be announced.
