The potential murder case against former UFC and PRIDE talent Phil Baroni is moving forward.
According to ESPN Deportes reporter Carlos Contreras Legaspi, the authorities have transferred the 46-year-old from the local jail cell.
The New York native has been found suspicious for killing a woman, who until now has only been identified as “Paola,” who was reportedly his girlfriend.
According to Baroni, he was with the woman at a hotel in the Bahia de Banderas region of Mexico. Eventually, the pair quarrelled because she revealed she was cheating on him.
According to the police report, the professional wrestler threw the woman into the shower, where she struck her head multiple times.
Baroni then moved her to the bed and left the room so he can get cigarettes and beer on the woman’s request. He said that she was unresponsive after he returned and couldn’t be revived.
He then contacted the authorities.
The police report stated that the woman suffered multiple injuries not just on her head, but also her arms, leg, and torso. Baroni also claimed that she was under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
According to Legaspi’s report, the New York native could face 30-50 years in prison if his trial goes ahead.
