Pitbull-Arculetta To Headline Bellator 228

Bellator is kicking off their featherweight world grand prix with a bang on September 28th, as featherweight champion Patricio Freire will defend against Juan Archuleta.

Archuleta decimated former champion Eduardo Dantas at Bellator 22 in a highlight reel knockout will has appeared in the most fights in Bellator history, with 22 appearances in the Bellator cage.

Freire returns to featherweight after taking the Bellator lightweight title from Michael Chandler in May with a first round TKO.

Joining Freire and Arguleta in the co-main event will be Gegard Mousasi as he looks to bounce back from his Bellator 223 loss to Rafael Lovato Jr. against Lyoto Machida.

This acts as the rematch of a 2014 UFC showdown where Machida would edge out Mousasi by decision, and four fight winning streak for Mousasi.

Since joining Bellator in 2017, Mousasi would go on a tear, winning three straight fights until his majority decision loss to Lovato in his second defense of the titlee.

Updated Bellator 228: Pitbull vs. Archuleta Fight Card:
Featherweight World Grand Prix Title Bout: Patricio “Pitbull” Freire (29-4) vs. Juan Archuleta (23-1)
Middleweight Co-Main Event: Lyoto Machida (26-8) vs. Gegard Mousasi (45-7-2)
