Pitbull-Carvalho, Weichel-Sanchez at Bellator 241
The last two quarterfinal bouts in the Bellator Featherweight Grand Prix will take place on March 13 as the two headlining bouts for Bellator 241.
In the main event, Bellator champ-champ Patricio “Pitbull” Freire defends the featherweight crown against Pedro Carvalho. The co-main event will see Daniel Weichel take on Emmanuel Sanchez in a battle of former title challengers.
Freire enters this bout on a five-fight win streak since re-claiming featherweight gold from Daniel Straus at Bellator 178 in 2017. Freire defeated Juan Archuleta in the co-main event of Bellator 228 in September to retain the 145-pound title and move on in the tournament.
Freire selected Carvalho as his opponent. Carvalho won his opening-round bout earlier that month at Bellator 226, submitting Sam Sicilia. The Irishman has won six straight, including all four of his bouts in Bellator thus far.
Weichel defeated Saul Rogers by unanimous decision at Bellator 228 in his opening-round bout, a win that’s bounced him back from a failed title bid against “Pitbull” at Bellator 203 and a lightweight loss to Goiti Yamauchi at Bellator 210.
Sanchez’s first-round win came via submission against Tywan Claxton at Bellator 226. He’s won two straight and six of his last seven, with the loss in that span being a title fight with Freire at Bellator 209.
Bellator 241 takes place from the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut.
