Plant Upsets Uzcategui To Win Title

Jose Uzcategui’s first title defense would be his last, as Caleb Plant would drop the former champion two times on the road to a unanimous decision win in Los Angeles.

The judges would score the fight for Plant 116-110, 116-110, 115-111 to earn him the IBF super middleweight title in the main event of a card on Fox Sports 1.

Plant would knock Uzcategui down in the second round, as the defending champion would look to keep pressure on the challenger to no avail.

Uzcategui would suffer a cut that would persist from the third round and later into the fight.

In the ninth round, Plant would ward off an attack from the champion that would see the challenger rocked and suffer a cut underneath his nose.

Uzcategui would try to finish the job in the 12th round, but would not get the job done, leading to a new champion.
