Poirier Blasts Covington Amid ATT Drama
In the immediate aftermath of his loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov, former interim UFC lightweight champion Dustin Poirier stood by his friend Jorge Masvidal.
Masvidal and Nate Diaz were announced on Saturday morning as the main event of UFC 244 for the newly created Bad Mother F***er title, which Diaz claims ownership of.
This move saw Poirier and Masvidals’ teammate and alleged friend Colby Covington blast that fight being made and call Masvidal a “journeyman.” Covington’s latest issue with Masvidal may be due to he and Diaz taking a spot initially set for Covington’s long-awaited shot at the UFC welterweight title against Kamaru Usman.
”Jorge is a buddy of mine,” Poirier said at the UFC 242 post-fight press conference. “I don’t sell out like f**king Colby Covington and talk bad about people I roll with. Jorge is a buddy of mine, I won’t fight him. He’s a training partner, he’s a good guy. If anything I’ll go out to Florida to help him train for that fight.”
Covington. who lives on social media, was silent over the weekend after the third attempt at him fighting for the welterweight title was pulled off the table, with the exception of the previously mentioned tweet calling the BMF title a “journeyman” title.
.@GamebredFighter I know you’re dumb and desperate, but you spelled JOURNEYMAN TITLE wrong junior. Reading is fundamental and #supernecessary. Just like WINNING is #supernecessary to get title fights. You should try both sometime, you trash bag. https://t.co/OTjrSKNbOI

While Covington tweeted this before the Diaz-Masvidal fight was made official, UFC President Dana White laid the blame of Covington not fulfilling his promise to make “Madison Square Garden Great Again,” at his and Usman’s feet.
”We offered Colby and Usman fights and they didn’t jump on it,” UFC president Dana White said in Abu Dhabi. “So we rolled, and we made another fight.”
