Porter Must Fight Thurman Next, Berto Also In-Line

Even though it seemed Keith Thurman wanted a rehab fight upon his return, he and WBC welterweight champion Shawn Porter must come to an agreement in 30 days for a title unification fight.

Thurman, who was the WBC welterweight champion, would relinquish the title due to inactivity related to injuries he suffered while training, currently holds the WBA welterweight title and was hoping to fight his way into shape before stepping back into big title fights.

Porter would take the title in a unanimous decision win over Danny Garcia in September, and has wanted a rematch against Thurman, who he lost to in 2016.

The two sides have 30 days to reach an agreement, if not there will be purse bid for the fight, which would potentially happen before the end of the year.

While Porter and Thurman settle out their plans, the other mandatory challenger, Andre Berto must wait and see what happens next for him, as he won that right with his most recent win over Devon Alexander.
