Porter Wants Spence PPV Fight Next
With a Manny Pacquiao fight potentially out of reach, Errol Spence Jr may get another opponent he’s been looking at for quite some time.
Spence believed that WBC welterweight champion Shawn Porter had been avoiding him by taking a mandatory title defense against Yordenis Ugas, instead of fighting him in a unification fight.
That seems to not be the case. as Porter made it clear that he requested to face Spence instead of his mandatory challenger, Ugas.
“I think we got Errol Spence next. We’ll see,” Porter told reporters prior to taking in Sergey Lipinets defeat of Lamont Peterson.
“Oh yeah, it’s a pay-per-view fight.”
Spence made the initial challenge in September, when Porter would win the then vacant WBC crown against Danny Garcia, but following his win over Mikey Garcia earlier this month, Spence was more interested in fighting Manny Pacquiao.
Yet, Pacquiao has backed away from a potential fight with Spence, looking towards either fellow welterweight champion Keith Thurman or former opponent, Floyd Mayweather.
