A potential location for Teofimo Lopez vs. George Kambosos has surfaced.
Lopez is expected to defend the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, The Ring, and WBC (Franchise) Titles against Kambosos sometime this year. After Lopez and Kambosos failed to come to terms with Top Rank’s initial offering, Triller won a purse bid for rights to the fight.
BoxingScene.com is reporting that the lead candidate for the venue is Marlins Park in Miami, Florida. The baseball park is home to the MLB team, Miami Marlins.
Kambosos would be an underdog going into this fight but he isn’t interested in settling for second place. He told The Sun that he plans on “embarrassing” Lopez.
“No one has ever turned round to Teofimo and said, ‘I’m coming straight at ya. I don’t care what you’ve done.’ They’ve all been scared of him, I don’t know why. He’s a young, 23-year-old little kid. I’m not scared of any man, I saw what Lomachenko did in that fight in the latter part, I’m bigger, stronger, faster and more explosive, and more violent. Just like Lopez shocked the world, it’s going to be very embarrassing come our fight.”
Meanwhile for Lopez, he’s looking to get out of his deal with Top Rank soon and test free agency. Here’s what he said during his appearance on The Ak & Barak Show.
“Yeah, I see myself within maybe this fight or my next fight, I’ll be a free agent. There’s so much proof for me to get out of this Top Rank contract that they gave me the golden ticket. Todd DuBoef gave me the golden ticket by doing so. They already dug a bigger hole than they needed to.
“The Takeover Promotions will be in effect and it’ll be Takeover Promotions times a network, god willing and that’s what I’m looking forward to. ESPN, PBC, Triller, the list could go on and on. DAZN, I mean there’s so many guys and I know that I bring all that to the platform.”
