Povetkin-Joshua Eyed For September
Deontay Wilder has the contract in hand for a fight against Anthony Joshua, now boxing fans hold their breath as they wait for the WBC champion to put pen to paper.
In a report from World Boxing News, Shelly Finkel confirmed on Tuesday night that he and Wilder’s team are reviewing the contract for a massive heavyweight unification fight this fall in the United Kingdom.
Finkel said: “We have received the contract and we are reviewing it. We will update in due course as to the next step.”
Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed that the contract was sent out on June 19th, and which Wilder claimed previously that he would sign near immediately if the terms were what he agreed to.
According to sources close to the situation, if Wilder bides his time in signing the deal, Matchroom is already setting up a fight with mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin for September 22nd in an unknown venue in the United Kingdom. Povetkin’s management team and Hearn have been talking frequently since both Povetkin and Joshua won their respective fights in March at Principality stadium in Cardiff.
Finkel stated on Tuesday that even though there was not an immediate acceptance, that there should be no concern of this fight not happening.
