Povetkin’s Team Claim He’s More Dangerous Than Wilder
Alexander Povetkin and his team are preparing for Anthony Joshua, as the deadline nears for a deal for a heavyweight championship clash.
Povetkin’s promoter and head of World of Boxing, Andrey Ryabinskiy is glad that the WBA decided to act and give Joshua and promoter Eddie Hearn a deadline of Wednesday to set a fight.
Joshua now seems to be set for a September 22nd clash with Povetkin, while Deontay Wilder is forced to wait in line.
“I’m happy that everything is working out,” said Ryabinskiy. “It’s been a pleasure going through the negotiations with Eddie and I cannot wait for us to start the preparations for the fight.”
Vadim Kornilov, a manager at World of Boxing, say in meetings with Hearn in May, and believes that their fighter is a more dangerous opponent for Joshua than Wilder.
“We are very close and we plan to finalize the deal very soon,” he told Sky Sports.
“The WBA has actually been very patient, but now they are pushing us to finalize this mandatory deal.
“I think Povetkin and Joshua are two gold medalists, a very competitive, top of the line fight. I think this is the best fight in the heavyweight division today.
While the WBC champion has been offered an April date at Wembley Stadium against Joshua, Povetkin and his team feel confident that they’ll play spoiler to Joshua’s plans to become undisputed world heavyweight champion.
“Povetkin wanted the fight really bad, and I believe that in this fight, it’s a 50-50 fight, it could go either way,” said Kornilov.
“The motivation and the desire for this fight shows Povetkin’s confidence.”
