Quigg To Face Velez In April, Farmer Next
Former world champion Scott Quigg is looking to get into title contention in boxing’s loaded super featherweight division and his next opponent has been announced.
Quigg will face former title challenger Jayson Velez on April 26 and it will take place on the undercard of Srisaket Sor Rungvisai vs. Juan Francisco Estrada 2. The card, promoted by Matchroom Boxing USA, will take place at The Forum in Inglewood, California.
The 30-year-old Quigg once held the WBA super bantamweight title for years, but is now working his way up to become a two-division champion. After unsuccessfully challenging for the WBO featherweight title in 2018, Quigg is hoping for a shot at IBF super featherweight champion Tevin Farmer.
“Tevin is a very good fighter, one I’ve watched for a long time. He’s come up the hard way with four losses as he was matched tough early on. He does everything well, but it’s a fight that I would jump at as I believe I have got the beating of him. I think I can fight for a title this year. Get a good win over Jayson on April 26 and I believe I’m ready. If I have to have another fight before then so be it, but 2019 I want to win a World title again,” Quigg said in a press release.
The card will not only be headlined by Sor Rungvisai vs. Estrada for the WBC super flyweight title, but also feature current WBA super bantamweight champion Daniel Roman unify titles with IBF titleholder TJ Doheny.
