Salkilld submitted Gamrot in the first round and said afterward that he may have injured his knee during the fight.
Quillan Salkilld (13-1) continued his rise through the lightweight division with a first-round submission victory over Mateusz Gamrot (26-5) in the UFC Vegas 120 main event.
Salkilld controlled much of the action before taking Gamrot down and eventually working his way to the back. The Australian secured a rear-naked choke, forcing Gamrot to tap at 4:25 of the opening round.
The victory extended Salkilld’s winning streak to 13 fights, including six consecutive victories since joining the UFC.
“That feels f*cking good, I just proved I’m the real f*cking deal,” Salkilld said. “That’s how I fight. I want to take it to you where you think you’re safe. I want to use all the weapons I have available in the arsenal. I believe I can get it done with the first minute or the last minute.”
Salkilld also revealed after the fight that he may have suffered a knee injury during an early grappling exchange with Gamrot.
Despite the potential setback, Salkilld made his intentions clear when discussing his next opponent.
“As long as it’s in the top five. I think I deserve someone in the top five or close to it.”
