Quillin to Face Angulo on September 21

After an IBF super middleweight title eliminator scheduled for next week was scrapped, former WBO middleweight champion Peter Quillin will now take on Alfredo Angulo on September 21.

Quillin and former IBF super middleweight champ Caleb Truax were scheduled to do battle next week for a shot at Caleb Plant. It would have been a rematch of their April clash that ended in a No Contest after two rounds, thanks to Truax getting badly cut from an accidental headbutt.

Truax, however, was forced to withdraw from the bout earlier this week due to a torn Achilles he is still rehabbing.

Quillin now looks to keep active and compete in his fourth bout at super middleweight. After losing a WBA title fight to Daniel Jacobs in December 2015, Quillin did not compete until his 168-pound debut in September 2017. Since then, he’s scored decision wins over Dashon Johnson and J’Leon Love before the No Contest against Truax.

Angulo is 5-6 in his last 11 bouts, most recently competing in April, when he scored a knockout of Evert Bravo. Losses in this span for Angulo, a former interim WBO super welterweight champion, have come against the likes of Canelo Alvarez, Erislandry Lara and Sergio Mora.

Quillin vs. Angulo headlines a Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on FS1 card at the Rabobank Theater in Bakersfield, California.
