Quote: Vasiliy Lomachenko vs. Richard Commey Is A ‘Terrific’ Fight
Richard Commey has one big supporter when it comes to getting a showdown with Vasiliy Lomachenko.
Lomachenko is coming off an upset loss against Teofimo Lopez back in October. Lomachenko lost the WBA (Super), WBO, The Ring, and WBC (Franchise) Lightweight Titles in the process. Top Rank Boxing’s Bob Arum recently told iFL TV that he’s looking at booking Lomachenko vs. Masayoshi Nakatani next.
Lou DiBella, Commey’s promoter, suggested to BoxingScene.com that Commey can serve as a legit threat to Lomachenko’s road back to lightweight gold.
“I always thought that Teofimo Lopez was a worse matchup for Commey than Lomachenko would be. I think Commey – a long, very aggressive guy with one-punch power, who’s bigger than Lomachenko – is a danger to Lomachenko. So, if you wanna make a real fight for Lomachenko, and it’s not gonna be Teofimo, put him in with Commey. That’s also a terrific fight.”
DiBella and Arum have a solid working relationship. DiBella’s fighters are often seen competing on Top Rank Boxing cards. Commey recently competed in the main event of a Top Rank card, knocking out Jackson Martinez in the sixth round. It was a much-needed rebound win for Commey, who was coming off a second-round TKO loss to Teofimo Lopez.
Lomachenko’s record sits at 14-2 right now. He has gone 13-1 in his last 14 outings. Lomachenko hadn’t suffered a loss before running into Lopez since March 2014. FIGHT SPORTS will keep you posted on the latest updates regarding Vasiliy Lomachenko’s next fight as more information becomes available.
