Ramirez knockouts Barrera; Diaz Jr defeats Javier Fortuna in a very close fight. – Friday Night Boxing results.

On Friday night, in Los Angeles, California, Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (42-0, 28KO) managed to drop Sullivan Barrera (22-4 14KO). In this 175 pounds (79.4 KG) bout, Zurdo earned his victory via knockout in the 4th round.

In the 3rd round, Ramirez managed to knockdown Barrera twice, but there was not enough time for Ramirez to finish his rival. Barrera used some time to recover from liver shots, but there was more to come. It took only 1 minute and a half for former WBO Super Middleweight Champion to finish his opponent in round number 4. Gilberto continued damaging Barreras body, and Thomas Taylor (Ref.) stopped the fight after the second knockdown of the current round.

After such a brutal win, Ramirez called out WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol (18-0, 11KO). Gilberto said that he wants Dmitry as the next opponent, but Bivol’s promoter is unlikely to permit him to fight against Zurdo.

Russian boxer is one of the options for a living legend Canelo Alvarez (56-1-2, 38KO) if Canelo’s team will not be able to negotiate with IBF super-middleweight champion Caleb Plant (21-0, 12KO). But even if Dmitry will not take the fight, Zurdo has a lot’s of options to share a ring with fighters like:
• Sergey Kovalev (34-4-1, 29KO)
• Maxim Vlasov (45-4, 26KO)
• Badou Jack (24-3-3, 14KO)
• Joshua Buatsi ( 14-0-0, 12KO)
• Marcus Browne (24-1-0, 16KO).

On the same night, Joseph “Jo Jo” Diaz Jr(32-1-1, 15KO) won the WBC interim lightweight belt and guaranteed himself as the next opponent for the current champion Devin Haney (26-0, 15KO).
It was a very close and competitive bout, but Joseph managed to earn victory via unanimous decision.
Judges scored the fight: 117-110, 116-111, and 115-112.

In the 3rd round, Diaz Jr was very unlucky. Firstly, he was cut over his left eye from a clash of heads. After that, he lost a point for punching to the back of the head, which is called “Rabbit Punch”. Diaz was already warned because of that illegal punch before, so the referee had no choice and fined him with a point. After losing such an important point, Diaz decided to fight clean and started attacking Fortuna to make this round draw.

Fortuna managed to take the 5th and 6th rounds. He was doing his best and was landing lots of significant strikes. It was an equal battle, but Diaz Jr. looked much better in the championship rounds. Unlike Diaz Jr, Fortuna’s punching power disappeared.

Finally, after dominating in the last 3 rounds, Diaz Jr earned his well-deserved victory and called out WBC lightweight champion Devin Haney.

He also called out super rising star of boxing Ryan Garcia (21-0, 18KO).
