Ramirez-Postol Rebooked For May In California

A fight that had to be cancelled is back on again. ESPN was the first to report that WBC Junior-Welterweight Champion Jose Ramirez will defend his title against Viktor Postol on May 9 inside the Save Mart Center in Fresno, California. The bout will take place on EPSN programming.

Originally scheduled for February 1 in China, the fight was called off in fear of the coronavirus outbreak. This is another collaboration between Top Rank and Premier Boxing Champions, which was likely set following the rematch between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury.

“No issues in getting these fights done,” Top Rank VP Carl Moretti stated to ESPN. “We’re just doing what we know how to do. Not trying to reinvent the wheel or anything. I’m sure the dialogue will continue on many levels after Saturday’s mega event.”

Ramirez (25-0) is coming off of a TKO-win over Maurice Hooker back in July. He won the WBO Super-Welterweight Title to go along with his WBC belt. The 27-year-old won the WBC belt back in 2018, beating Amir Iman for the vacant title in 2018.

Postol (31-2) is coming off of a unanimous decision win over Mohamed Mimoune back in April to become the mandatory challenger. He is on a two-fight win streak following a 1-2 record from 2016 to the middle of 2018.

A win by Ramirez could mean a clash with WBA and IBF Champion Josh Taylor down the line. Stay tuned for more fights to be announced for this card.
