Raoni Barcelos Released From Hospital Following Losing Consciousness In The Octagon
UFC bantamweight Raoni Barcelos (18-7) has been discharged from the hospital three days after losing consciousness during his UFC Vegas 121 main event against Raul Rosas Jr. (14-1).
The 39-year-old Brazilian posted a picture alongside his wife and son on Tuesday night confirming he’s home as he thanked his fans for their love, support and prayers.
Barcelos was ahead on the scorecards entering the fifth round of Saturday’s fight before Rosas slammed him to the canvas at 1:38. Barcelos went limp following the impact, with Rosas immediately signaling for the fight to be stopped.
Barcelos remained unconscious while receiving medical attention before being stretchered out of the arena and transported to a Level 1 trauma center. He subsequently regained consciousness and underwent a CT scan and further examinations.
The cause of the incident has not been publicly established. Barcelos’ coach Davi Ramos said earlier this week that doctors had ruled out a stroke and heart attack.
UFC CEO Dana White subsequently confirmed Barcelos was awake, walking and talking.
Barcelos said from his hospital bed Monday that he intends to fight again and “come back stronger.”
