Ray Borg-Nathan Maness Reportedly Set For August UFC Event

A veteran will reportedly be facing off against a debuting MMA star. According to MMA Junkie, Nathan Maness will make his first UFC appearance against Ray Borg.

Borg (13-5) is 2-3 in his last five fights dating back to 2017. The former UFC Flyweight Title contender missed weight three times within the division. He ended up rejoining the bantamweight division, facing Ricky Simon back in May. He would lose to Simon via split decision, ending a two-fight win streak.

“The Tazmexican Devil” was supposed to fight on June 13 against Merab Dvalishvili. He ended up backing out due to personal reasons.

Maness (11-1) made his professional debut in 2013. The 29-year-old was on a ten-fight win streak until losing to Taylor Lapilus in 2019. He last fought in February, beating Kellen VanCamp via knockout, his fourth win via KO.

Speaking with Lowkick MMA’s James Lynch, the roofing construction worker in Maness was excited at the opportunity to face off against a fighter like Borg.

“I love it to be honest with you,” Maness stated. “There’s really no lose here. I’m going to go in there and I’m going to give it my best shot. I think I can beat the guy, I think I match up well with him. I haven’t watched a ton of his stuff just yet… but he has a 63-inch reach, 5’4. I’m a pretty big 35, I got a 7-inch reach, 5’10, I’m going to have some length on him. I just got to use those things to my advantage. I think it’s going to be a fun fight.”

The August 1 event will be taking place inside the UFC’s APEX Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The main event is expected to be Holly Holm v. Irene Aldana in a bantamweight bout.
