RDA: Till Won’t Be At 170 Much Longer

Despite facing weight problems of his own, Rafael dos Anjos says he was shocked when he saw a video of Darren Till struggling through a weight cut.

The video, which was eventually pulled down by one of Till’s sponsors, who released the controversial video, was negatively received across the MMA community. Some wondered why he was still allowed to fight against Thompson. Others criticized his team, saying Till could have died from the dangerous weight cut. Commissions were called on to not allow Till to fight or force him to move up a weight class.

Dos Anjos, who participated in a media lunch scrum this past week, knows about weight cut struggles. The former lightweight champion, dos Anjos was not the same fighter when he lost the title to Eddie Alvarez and suffered a defeat at the hands of Tony Ferguson, both in 2016. Since moving up to welterweight, dos Anjos has bounced back and he now has an interim title fight with Colby Covington on June 9 at UFC 225 in Chicago.

“I don’t see him fighting very long in this welterweight division,” dos Anjos said. “Every time you make weight, it gets harder and harder and harder. I’ve been there before. I feel like every time I made 155, it was getting harder and harder [and] harder every time. That’s gonna happen to him and he’s gonna go to 185 eventually.”
