RDA Wants Diaz for Welterweight Debut
Former lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos does not want to work his way up slowly in the welterweight division. Since announcing his move up to 170 lbs., Dos Anjos has revealed who he would like to face as his first opponent in the new weight class, and it’s a big one: Nick Diaz.
Speaking to Combate, Dos Anjos said that his history with the younger Diaz should entice the older brother to step out from the sidelines and accept the fight.
"I’ve been talking about this. I’ve been thinking Nick Diaz would be a good fight. I have some history with his brother and he’s just there, not fighting. But I don’t know if he wants to fight now.
“People ask me if I really want to start against those guys. I came to this weight class to do fights that matter, not fighters who would only serve as a way up the ladder for me. I’ve been training a lot of boxing. Everybody trains jiu-jitsu and muay thai, but they forget the basic principles of boxing and that makes a difference."
Rafael dos Anjos ended his lightweight run on two-fight losing skid, defeated by Eddie Alvarezand Tony Ferguson. His last win was December 2015, when he TKO’d Donald Cerrone in the first round.
