Known as the busiest fighter in all of MMA, Donald Cerrone has also been known to face anyone looking to brawl. He faced a fighter in 2013 in Anthony Pettis, who was coming from WEC and on a two-fight win streak.
As expected, the two landed hard shots right as the opening round began. Pettis landed a right to the chin of Cerrone, who would not budge. He then hit Cerrone with a left hook and a right hand. Pettis went for a cartwheel flip and but Cerrone hit a right knee to avoid it. Cerrone was hesitant, with commentary hinting something was off since the Nate Diaz loss in 2011. Pettis kept on going for body shots which affected Cerrone’s breathing. He landed one big shin to the liver that just knocked Cerrone down to the floor, ending the fight in the first.
Pettis and Cerrone will look to run it back as they face off on May 9 at UFC 249. The event will take place inside the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida. They will main event the prelims starting at 8 p.m. ET.
