Renato Moicano Dominates Chris Duncan, Captures Submission In Round Two
On Saturday, inside the Meta Apex, Renato Moicano used a full range of abilities to systematically dismantle Chris Duncan in their lightweight main event contest at UFC Fight Night Vegas 115.
Though it was expected by many, and the Vegas odds, that Duncan would overcome Moicano as long as he was able to keep the fight standing, by the end of the first it was clear the Brazilian held an advantage in that department as well.
Through the first round, both were landing solid strikes, but Moicano was certainly landing the heavier and more frequent ones, with Duncan showcasing excellent takedown defense in between. As things moved into the second, it was clear that Duncan knew he had lost that round based on volumetric output, and began to open up.
While this shift in output was the change that Duncan needed to make, it is what ultimately led to the end of the fight. During one of the exchanges in which both competitors were landing punches, Moicano found a hole in Duncan’s defense and dropped him with a left hook. Once Duncan hit the canvas, the Brazilian was all over him, dragging him back down as he attempted to stand, and quickly secured the body triangle-back mounted position.

From the back, Moicano stayed extremely active and continued to deliver punishing blows to his opponent as he waited for the right time. In a swift movement, Duncan threw his elbow behind him in an attempt to land a surprise strike, but Moicano used that as the perfect time to snatch the neck and achieve the rear naked choke submission victory.
While this victory has no lightweight title implications, it served as a reminder of the threat that Moicano presents in the octagon for many competitors, and secured his position inside the top ten.
