Replacement For Ramiz Brahimaj At UFC On ESPN 12 Revealed
Just a day before he was set to compete, Ramiz Brahimaj has been forced off of the latest UFC card from Las Vegas.
Brahimaj (8-2) was set to make his UFC debut this Saturday, June 27 for UFC on ESPN 12. Fighting on the prelims, Brahimaj was supposed to fight Takashi Sato. The UFC announced that one of his cornermen tested positive for COVID-19. Due to the guidelines brought by the Nevada Athletic Commission, those surrounding the affected individual must leave the “Bubble” the UFC is placed in.
Making his MMA debut in 2014, Brahimaj has been competing for LFA. The 27-year-old is 2-2 in his last four fights and is coming off a submission win against Carlos Martinez in March 2019.
Replacing Brahimaj will be Jason Witt, pending the result of his COVID-19 test. Witt (15-5) will be looking to make his UFC debut after making his debut in 2013. Competing for Bellator, Cageside Promotions, and LFA, Witt has seven wins via submission. He is on a two-fight win streak, last beating Roberto Neves via unanimous decision in September.
Due to the last-minute notice, Witt will be undergoing a separate weigh-in and will not be participating in group weigh-ins.
Sato (15-3) made his pro debut in 2013. A Pancrase alum, Sato made his UFC debut in April 2019, beating Ben Saunders via TKO. His last bout was in September, losing to Belal Muhammad via submission.
The change in opponent is one of the many new updates to the UFC on ESPN 12 card. Miranda Maverick had to back out of her bout against Mara Romero Borella due to injury, while Aspen Ladd v. Sarah McMann was postponed. Sean Woodson is also now set to face Julian Erosa after Kyle Nelson had to back out of their fight.
UFC on ESPN 12 will be taking place inside the UFC’s APEX Center. The main event will be Dustin Poirier v. Dan Hooker.
