Report: Jessica Andrade-Rose Namajunas Rematch Set For July 11
Depending on multiple variables, the UFC might be able to try again for a second fight between former UFC Strawweight Champion’s Rose Namajunas and Jessica Andrade.
Andrade (20-7) and Namajunas (8-4) were supposed to face one another on the original UFC 249 card on April 18. “Thug Rose” had to pull out of the bout after two members of her family died from COVID-19. Due to the severity of the virus and what her family is going through, it is unknown when Namajunas will be ready to return to action.
Namajunas won the UFC Strawweight Title from Joanna Jedrzejczyk back at UFC 217 in 2017. She beat her in a rematch at UFC 223, an event that scarred her as a result of Conor McGregor’s bus attack. She last fought in May, losing the title to Andrade at UFC 237. The fight was known for Andrade dropping Namajunas on her neck.
After beating Namajunas, Andrade was on a four-fight win streak. Her last fight was against Zhang Weili in August. It only took one round for Zhang to take her out via TKO to win the UFC Strawweight TItle.
Zhang recently expressed a desire to defend her title against Namajunas. It is expected the bout between ranked fighters Andrade (#1) and Namajunas (#2) would result in a title shot.
