Report: Oscar De La Hoya Will Not Be Making Comeback Fight On July 3

Oscar De La Hoya will not be making his comeback fight on July 3 if a report is to be believed.

De La Hoya has been looking to make his return to the ring. He insists that he isn’t interested in participating in exhibition matches. He’s even gone as far as to say he wants to fight the best boxers in the world.

Chris Mannix of DAZN and Sports Illustrated took to his Twitter account to report that De La Hoya’s comeback fight will not be taking place on July 3 as planned.

“As for Oscar De La Hoya, there are no firm plans for his comeback fight. De La Hoya has been floating July 3rd as a return date, but that isn’t happening. Sides have not locked in an opponent, either.”

De La Hoya is 48 years old and hasn’t competed since December 2008. Some have been puzzled by De La Hoya’s desire to return to fighting since he’s had great success with Golden Boy Promotions over the years. De La Hoya has said he simply has the fire to put his gloves back on.

There has been no word on who De La Hoya’s opponent will be. Former UFC Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez claimed he was a lead candidate but decided against taking the fight. When De La Hoya’s comeback fight actually does take place, it’s set to air live on Triller.
