Report: Thiago Santos Pulled From October 3 Fight With Glover Teixeira

It appears there is yet another hurdle in getting Thiago Santos vs. Glover Teixeira to come to fruition.

Santos and Teixeira were initially supposed to do battle on September 12. That plan went awry when Teixeira tested positive for COVID-19. The bout was rescheduled for October 3 but if a new report is to be believed, the tables have turned.

Marcelo Barone of Globo is reporting that Santos vs. Teixeira will have to be held on a new date yet again if it’s expected to take place. That’s because Santos has reportedly tested positive for COVID-19 this time.

Santos hasn’t competed since July 6, 2019. Following his split decision loss to Jon Jones, “Marreta” had to undergo surgery on both of his knees due to torn ligaments. He’ll have to wait even longer to make his long-awaited return to the Octagon.

Teixeira has been hoping to capitalize on his TKO victory over Anthony Smith back on May 13. The Brazilian bruiser is riding a four-fight winning streak. A win over Santos would be huge for Teixeira’s hopes of getting another crack at UFC gold. Santos is the number two-ranked UFC light heavyweight and with Jones moving up to heavyweight, it could be the perfect time for Teixeira to step up. The question remains, when will these two finally trade leather?
