Report: Update On Shawn Porter’s Return To The Ring
As Premier Boxing Champions slowly returns to action, the promotion is getting ready to showcase some of its top fighters. A former champion is looking to redeem himself and end the summer off right.
According to Mike Coppinger of The Athletic, Shawn Porter will fight for the first time since September against Sebastian Formella. The fight will take place on August 22 and it will be a PBC on FOX main event.
Porter (30-3-1) is a former IBF Welterweight Champion. A multi-time title contender, Porter has faced a who’s who of fighters in his last six contests. After losing to Keith Thurman for the WBA Welterweight Title Porter beat Andre Berto and Adrian Granados in 2017. He would beat Danny Garcia for the WBC Welterweight Title and would retain it against Yordenis Ugas. Porter would lose the belt to Errol Spence Jr. last September in a Fight of the Year contender.
Before COVID-19 took over the United States, there were talks about Porter v. Terence Crawford, the WBO Welterweight Champion. Top Rank’s Bob Arum would end up stating that could still be an option. Porter could also return to face Spence once again.
Formella (22-0) made his debut in 2015. He last fought in January, beating Roberto Arriaza for the IBO World Welterweight Title. The 33-year-old has ten wins via knockout.
PBC announced that Jamal James and Thomas Dulorme will face off on July 25, the first fight back for PBC. The fight will take place inside the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT.
