Report: What’s Next For Tim Tszyu?
Tim Tszyu is reportedly gearing up for a return to action before 2020 comes to a close.
Tszyu is fresh off an eighth-round TKO victory over Jeff Horn to retain his IBF Australasian and WBO Global Light-Middleweight Titles. The win improved Tszyu’s perfect pro boxing record to 16-0. It was also Tszyu’s 12th victory via knockout or TKO.
Tszyu’s promoter, Matt Rose told FOX Sports Australia that the chances of seeing Tszyu challenge Patrick Teixeira for the WBO Light-Middleweight Title were looking promising.
“All parties are very interested in making this fight happen – Teixeira’s promoters want to see him back in the ring defending his belt as soon as possible and the WBO is obviously in the business of keeping their champions active. There’s a few hurdles to get over but it’s looking good and it could all happen very quickly, plus it helps that the world just saw a big crowd at our event in Townsville.”
WBO President Paco Valcarcel called a halt to that plan as he reminded Tszyu’s team that Brian Castano is the mandatory challenger for Teixeira’s championship. It’s a mandatory ruling that is likely to force Tszyu to wait for his major title opportunity.
WA Today is reporting that Tszyu is targeting a December return against a domestic opponent. The venue will likely be Bankwest Stadium.
