Rey Vargas Vs. O’Shaquie Foster Pre-Fight Presser – Here’s What Happened

On February 11th 2023, Rey Vargas (36-0, 22 KOs) and O’Shaquie Foster (19-2, 11 KOs) are set to fight for the vacant WBC junior lightweight championship live from the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, on Showtime.

With just two days remaining before the main event, the fighters held their pre-bout press conference. In chief support, former world champion Mario Barrios (26-2, 17 KOs) and Jovanie Santiago (14-2-1, 10 KOs) will battle it out in a ten-round welterweight match-up.

To begin the night, 2016 Olympian Lenier Pero (8-0, 5 KOs) and Viktor Faust (11-0, 7 KOs) will go head-to-head in a ten-round heavyweight showdown. With that being said, here were some of the key points that were raised by the two-headlining fighters.

Press Conference

Rey Vargas: “The Alamodome has seen me win once, being crowned the champion before, and they will see it again on Saturday night. It has become a very big personal objective for me to become a part of that club, [Chavez, Barrera as three time champions].

“I don’t want to be the exception. I don’t want to disappoint. I want to be among the best that there ever there in Mexican boxing.

“Indeed, O’Shaquie is a quality fighter and someone with an Olympic style…He knows I’m not just anybody. I’m sure he’s lost plenty of sleep being nervous and anxious about having to face me. So he better be ready.”

 

O’Shaquie Foster: “Fighting back home, man, the feelings can’t even explain it. I’m just ready to go. I know he will probably have the fans on his side, but you know, I’m coming to steal that.

“And by the end of the night, you know, I feel like the world is going to see what I’m really made of. Come Saturday night, he’s going to feel me, he’s going to take a beating.”
