Riddick Bowe Pulled From Celebrity Boxing Match Against Lamar Odom
The Celebrity Boxing promotion has axed Riddick Bowe from the fight card. The former heavyweight champion was scheduled to box former NBA player Lamar Odom on October 2.
The promotion was reportedly under criticism for allowing the 54-year-old boxing legend to fight. Few news reports had claimed that Bowe has health concerns as well. The former boxer has put on a lot of weight too.
“This is entertainment, I’m trying to put on a show. I’m not trying to get anyone’s head knocked off,” Damon Feldman, who owns the promotion, said in a recent interview.
The concerns grew more after Evander Holyfield, 58, put up a horrible show against Vitor Belfort where the former champ looked his age. Belfort is physically fitter than Holyfield, but seeing him struggle due to his age was an unpleasant sight for the boxing community.
Despite being removed from the fight, Bowe has been allowed to remain part of the event where he will get some financial compensation. Bowe has also removed his social media posts about the Odom bout that he put up in July.
The promotion hasn’t yet confirmed who will replace Bowe to fight Odom.
The 54-year-old last tried a hand in Muay Thai against Yevgeniy Golovin in 2013. His last boxing match was back in 2008.
