Rigondeaux Returns on Cotto-Kirkland PPV
Super-bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux will return on the undercard, of the HBO pay-per-view show headlined by Miguel Cotto vs. James Kirkland. The fight will take place in Frisco, Texas on February 25th.
Rigondeaux (17-0) announced on Twitter that he would be fighting against mandatory title challenger and interim champion Moises "Chucky" Flores (25-0, 17 KOs).
A Cuban amateur boxing legend, Rigondeaux is considered by many to be a top-10 pound-for-pound boxer. Some of his competition has been criticized, however, and Rigondeaux’s defensive style of fighting has kept him from getting the kind of big-name fights with the likes of Carl Frampton or Vasyl Lomachenko that he has been lobbying for.
The 36-year-old will look to shut down Flores with his typical technical mastery and then look for a higher-profile matchup.
The event is headlined by a non-title fight between former champion Miguel Cotto and James Kirkland.
