Ring Magazine Announces New Lightweight Rankings
Ring Magazine updated its new lightweight rankings on June 8 (Wednesday). Unsurprisingly, Devin Haney (28-0, 15 KOs) sits on top after securing a victory against unified champ George Kambosos Jr (20-1, 10 KOs).
The biggest talking point is Ryan Garcia’s position, who sits at #5 on the Ring Magazine rankings. This is seen by many as a questionable move because the 23-year-old is typically considered more of a social media boxer.
Another big surprise is Teofimo Lopez being ranked #2, especially because he has already announced that he would be moving up to 140 lbs. and won’t be returning to 135 lbs. The 24-year-old’s first match at 140 lbs. will be against Pedro Campa on August 13, and as a result, many seem to feel as though he should not have been included in this ranking.
Another big surprise is Kamboso Jr. getting ranked higher than Vasiliy Lomachenko, who holds the #3 ranking, as many boxing experts believe that the Ukrainian is far more talented of the two.
Here is Ring Magazine’s full ranking:
