Roach Gives Canelo Edge Against GGG
With their rematch just a little over a month away, both Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin are in deep preparation for their highly anticipated rematch at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Their first fight was mired in controversy due to a split decision draw, and their first rematch date of May 5th was postponed due to Alvarez failing two drug tests for the fat burning drug clenbuterol.
When speaking to Boxing Scene, Freddie Roach believes that at 36, age will be catching up to Golovkin, while Alvarez is heading into his prime.
“Triple G is a good friend of mine but in this particular fight I think I am going to favor the younger guy in this one. I think that Triple G’s movements – he doesn’t cut the ring off the way that he used to – and he may be slowing down a little bit. But it is a very interesting fight and I can’t wait to see it,” Roach told BoxingScene.com when asked for his opinion on the fight.
“I had it even. It could have went either way,” Roach said about their first fight. “The rematch is a big fight. Two great fighters. I can’t wait to see. It is one that I am looking forward to. I think it is going to be a great fight,” said Roach.
