Roach Gives Canelo Edge In GGG Rematch

Following their 2017 draw, many in the boxing community had Gennady Golovkin as the winner of his highly controversial fight against Canelo Alvarez.

Now, days away from their anticipated rematch, there are those in the sport who feel that Golovkin may fall for the first time in his pro career. One of the biggest names to select Alvarez as the winner of their September 15th rematch is Freddie Roach.

Roach told BoxingScene.com – “I like Canelo a little bit, Triple G is I think slipping a little bit. I don’t think he cuts the ring off as efficiently as he used to. I like Triple G and I hope he wins but I can’t bet with my heart, so I think that Canelo will win a decision.”

Roach believes that it is “definitely possible” that the last three rounds of their 2017 come into play in to the fight. “The thing is they say Triple G is very angry at him… I mean, you can’t go into a fight with anger. He’s got to fight his fight and if he makes that mistake I think it will be a big one.”

“It’ll be a good boxing match, a very good fight. Canelo, I think has to pick it up a little bit, Triple G will be the same boxer he is, but the thing is with his legs – can he cut the ring off. I mean, he was the best I’ve ever seen in my life and when he cut the ring off, he’d get you in the corner and land the right hand, the fight was usually over. “If he can do that again, he’ll have success, but he’s got to do that perfectly.”
