Roach Not Training Pacquiao For July

Now that the dust has settled on the negotiations for a fight between Manny Pacquiao and Lucas Matthysse, it has been made known that Top Rank will have not be promoting the fight. And while Bob Arum will still be involved with the fight, it seems that Freddie Roach will not be training Pacquiao for the July 14th showdown.

According to a report from Bad Left Hook, Pacquiao will not be working with Roach, and instead the Filipino’s longtime aide, Buboy Fernandez, per Michael Koncz, who helps run Manny Pacquiao Promotions.

One reason Pacquiao could be working with Arum on the PPV and North American distribution of the Matthysse fight, could be due to wanting a fight with Vasyl Lomachenko.

“That would be something like Manny versus Oscar,” said Koncz said to Bad Left Hook, hoping to not suffer the same fate De La Hoya did when he faced Pacquiao in 2008.
