Robert Whittaker vs. Paulo Costa On Tap For April 17
Robert Whittaker vs. Paulo Costa is being targeted.
Sherdog is reporting that Whittaker and Costa are in talks to share the Octagon on April 17. The bout would headline a UFC Fight Night event. There will be no interim title on the line, which was mentioned by UFC President Dana White before the report came to light. The bout will likely take place in Las Vegas.
After losing the UFC Middleweight Championship to Israel Adesanya back in October 2019, “The Reaper” has bounced back with two straight wins. First, he defeated Darren Till via unanimous decision. Then, he bested Jared Cannonier after three rounds of action.
Costa is hoping to rebound after his second-round TKO loss to Israel Adesanya. This was Costa’s failed bid at the UFC 185-pound gold. It was also the first time Costa was defeated in his pro MMA career.
Whittaker brings with him a record of 22-5. Along the way, he has scored nine knockouts and five submissions. He’s beaten the likes of Yoel Romero, Jacare Souza, Till, and Cannonier.
Costa’s record sits at 13-1. “Borrachinha” has nabbed 11 of those wins via TKO and he has one submission victory. Costa has picked up wins over the likes of Romero, Uriah Hall, and former UFC Welterweight Champion Johny Hendricks.
