Rockhold: Waiting on Answer from Silva
— Brett Okamoto (@bokamotoESPN) April 8, 2017
Luke Rockhold has not been seen in the UFC Octagon since UFC 199 back in June, when he lost the UFC middleweight title in his first defense to Michael Bisping.
Rockhold was scheduled to face Jacare Souza at UFC Fight Night 101 back in late November, but the fight was called off after Rockhold pulled out due to an undisclosed injury. Many have wondered when we’d see Rockhold competing again.
If this video interview from ESPN’s Brett Okamoto says anything, it might be soon. In the video, Rockhold claims he has been given the chance to fight Anderson Silva at UFC 212.
"Anderson Silva was thrown on my doorstep," Rockhold said. "It’s a fight that gets me excited. It’s Anderson Silva, a guy that I’ve wanted to fight for a long time. He called me out back in Strikeforce, and now here we are. I think it’s a good time for the fight."
Rockhold adds the claim that he has accepted the fight, and now he is waiting on an answer from Silva. He has doubts, however, that the fight may happen because Silva "picks and chooses" his opponents.
"I don’t have a good feeling he’s going to take the fight," Rockhold said. "I called him out after the Bisping fight and thought it was a good time then, and he did not want to go."
