Roger Gutierrez- Rene Alvarado To Co-Feature For Ortiz Vs Kavaliauskas Card
While all eyes are set on Golden Boy’s Vergil Ortiz Jr vs Egidijus Kavaliauskas card, it has been confirmed that the trilogy fight between Roger Gutierrez (25-3-1, 20 KO) and Rene Alvarado (32-8, 21 KO) will serve as its co-feature. The event will take place on August 14.
In the January fight held in Dallas on the Garcia-Campbell show, Gutierrez upset the odds to beat over Alvarado via unanimous decision. The 26-year-old Venezuelan pro was scored 113-112 across the board. What made the judges lean in Gutierrez’s direction was the number of times Alvarado went down. He was brought twice in the third round and once in the 12th.
This paved the way for Gutierrez to get his hands on the WBA’s “World” 130lb title. Watching Alvarado’s loss was shocking for the boxing community since he was on an eight-fight win streak before the showdown against Gutierrez. This included the 2017 fight against The Kid which the 32-year-old won via a seventh-round stoppage.
On the other hand, Alvarado’s brother Felix (36-2, 31 KO) will also be seen in action on August 14. He will defend his IBF junior flyweight title against Erick Lopez (16-5-1, 10 KO).
