Rolly Romero And Teofimo Lopez Face-Off Ahead Of Title Fight In August
Rolando Romero and Teofimo Lopez will square off come August 22nd for Rolly’s WBA welterweight title, but first the pair met in the launch presser surrounding the event on Thursday this week.
Lopez most recently squared off with Shakur Stevenson back in January, but fell short on the judges’ scorecards and was forced to hand over his super lightweight title. Now, “The Takeover” intends to make a splash in the welterweight division, and has Rolly’s WBA title in the front of his mind.
Romero secured the WBA title last May in his monumental upset of Ryan Garcia, which served as his second straight win, bouncing back from a knockout loss to Isaac Cruz in 2024.
Despite the seriousness of the fight, both Romero and Lopez were having fun at the press conference, showing off a uniquely comedic pairing of personalities.
