Rolly Romero Responds To Ryan Garcia’s Call Out

The WBA junior welterweight champion Rolando Romero has not ruled out the idea of fighting Ryan Garcia.

Garcia called out Romero in his post-fight comments following his eighth round stoppage victory over Oscar Duarte. Romero secured the WBA belt with a win over Ismael Barroso. He had been on course to defend the belt against Ohara Davies, who was the mandatory. However, Romero pulled out with a medical issue, which has resulted in Davis fighting Barroso in a title eliminator, with the winner then facing Rolly. But provided that he does come through those struggles, Romero could see a fight happening.

“I’ve been calling him out since April 20th, 2017. It’s a fight that has been long-awaited by me, the boxing media, and the fans. It’s one of those mega-fights. You get me, the greatest salesman in the world. Then you get pretty princess [Ryan] over there. It sounds like a good time. I hope so. I’m still dealing with some stuff on my end. I haven’t been well, but I think that sounds beautiful. I’m healing.

“I don’t want to say too much because maybe I say two or three words, and maybe he [Ryan Garcia] gets depression and retires for a year, or we don’t know what’s really there. Maybe he’s speaking out of his a**. Maybe it’s some bull s***. We don’t know. But I know if the fight does get signed, it’s going to be one of the biggest fights this year [correction: 2024],” Romero said

Meanwhile, a fight with either Devin Haney or Teofimo Lopez would resonate well since both world champions are huge names. The potential Garcia-Romero fight received a mixed response.
