Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez Hands Belt To Coach As Sign Of Respect
Roman Gonzalez (51-3, 41 KOs) has shown the world that he isn’t just a great champion, but also a sublime professional.
The newly crowned WBC Diamond super flyweight champion had a peculiar demand after his unanimous win over Julio Cesar Martinez (18-2, 14 KOs).
Before he went back to his roots in Nicaragua, Chocolatito shared a moment of respect with his trainer, Marco Caballero. Gonzalez handed his WBC trainer’s championship to Caballaro as he wanted to honor him.
WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman didn’t have any second thoughts. He proceeded with this request and took the belt himself to Los Angeles.
You could feel the emotion within Caballero’s eyes the moment Gonzalez stepped foot into the WBC headquarters’ office.
Sharing his thoughts, Gonzalez’s trainer said that he was overwhelmed by the way the champion honored him.
“In the last battle against Estrada, my granddaughters created a paper belt as they felt that I deserved it. Now, they will be able to see how the real thing looks like,” Caballero said.
