Romero Denies Haney Fight Is Finalized

Rolando Romero has denied reports that his potential 147-pound unification bout against Devin Haney has been finalized.

The WBA welterweight champion recently revealed that he had signed his side of the agreement, subject to an official announcement. Romero insisted that any delay in finalizing the unification fight with the WBC Welterweight Champion lies squarely on the shoulders of Devin and his father, Bill Haney as they have still not returned the paperwork.

The delay reportedly stems from the Haneys’ scrutiny of the “financial structure” of the deal. They are also navigating a potential mandatory defense against Sandor Martin, while Romero faces pressure from the WBA to face his own mandatory, Shakhram Giyasov. Romero hit out at those marketing a Haney fight when it has not been finalized.

“Why are we promoting a fight that’s not even signed? If the contract’s not signed, it’s not signed,” Romero said
